OSHA and ASSE form alliance to promote worker safety

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) have joined together in a formal alliance to promote worker safety and health with a focus on reducing ergonomics-related injuries.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) have joined together in a formal alliance to promote worker safety and health with a focus on reducing ergonomics-related injuries.

The alliance formalizes a working relationship between OSHA and ASSE to provide information and guidance on reducing and preventing exposure to ergonomic hazards and developing, implementing, or improving ergonomic programs in the workplace.

“Our members are on the front lines when it comes to workplace safety,” said ASSE president Mark Hansen. “Their commitment to safety and their expertise, combined with the excellent caliber of OSHA staff, will provide an unending well of resources the corporations from all industries can tap into in an effort to reduce injuries.”

Ergonomic programs remove barriers to quality, productivity, and human performance by fitting products, tasks, and environments to people—in the long run, investing in effective ergonomic programs will save businesses millions later, Hansen noted.
