Delco Remy to close Anderson, Ind. operations

Delco Remy, a global automotive manufacturer, will be closing its Delco Remy America starter and alternator operations in Anderson, Indiana during the first quarter of 2003, with production to be taken on by other global Delco Remy plants.

The shut-down will impact approximately 350 hourly UAW employees and approximately 50 salaried employees. The company’s engineering and administrative headquarters will remain in Anderson.

“The business has grown and developed into a significant global player, but competitive pressures have continued to the point that the Anderson manufacturing operations are no longer viable,” said Richard Stanley, Delco Remy America president. “Our focus over the next several weeks will be to address the issues and concerns of our affected employees while continuing to deliver quality products to our customers,” he said.
