Toyota has announced plans to expand its manufacturing presence in North America after hitting its production target for 1.2 million vehicles and approximately 1.35 million engines and transmissions in 2002.
For 2003, the company forecasts an increase in production to 1.48 million vehicles. In addition to its four North American plants, the company plans to begin vehicle production at its fifth North American assembly plant in Baja, Calif. by 2005 to accommodate the demand.
“Toyota is committed to increasing our manufacturing presence in North America,” said Dennis Cuneo, senior VP of Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America. “Over the past few years, we have grown tremendously, adding new plants and expanding existing ones to meet the demands of the North American market,” he said.
“I am proud of our North American team members who work hard to ensure that Toyota’s high standards for quality are built into every vehicle.”
