Ford ranked US best-selling brand 16 years running

Ford was ranked as the best selling automotive brand in the US for the 16th consecutive year, and it experienced a $1.7 billion improvement in operating results during the 2002 fiscal year, according to the company.

Sales were up more than 1% from the previous year at $162.6 billion, and approximately 6,980,000 Ford cars were sold during 2002, a slight drop from 2001’s 7,008,000. The company reported that overall quality performance and customer satisfaction improved; US retail share improved during the year; and its Focus, F-Series, and Explorer brands were the world’s best-selling car, truck, and SUV, respectively.

“In the first year of our turnaround, Ford improved its operating results by about $1.7 billion,” said Bill Ford, chairman and CEO. “Our earnings performance demonstrates that we are making solid progress toward the goals outlined in our Revitalizing Plan. In 2002, we exceeded nearly all our commitments and are on track to reach our mid-decade target of an annual $7 billion pre-tax operating profit.”
