At the fourth annual Automotive Environmental Superiority (AMES) Awards held in Michigan, Toyota beat out the competition for the third year, winning 11 awards for outstanding environmental technology and design.
General Motors and Ford were also recognized, winning 10 awards each. The awards are based on the Life Cycle Assessment concept, taking into account tailpipe emissions, fuel economy, and proprietary forecasting technology. The awards were given jointly by the AMES Award LLC and R.L. Polk & Co., the auto industry expert on registration-based marketing solutions.
“This year’s AMES Award winners represent a very diverse class,” said Stephen Polk, chairman and CEO of R.L. Polk &Co. “Developing and producing ‘greener’ vehicles has clearly become very important to all manufacturers, both foreign and domestic.”
“The paradigm in today’s market is that consumers can only make a contribution to environmental sustainability by choosing a hybrid, fuel cell, or electric vehicle,” said William Mattick, president and CEO of AMES Award LLC. “However, the emerging paradigm is that by choosing an environmentally superior vehicle that meets their utility needs, represented by our award winners, consumers can make an important contribution to reduce the potential of global warming and subsequent climate change.”
