The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and Ernst & Young released their latest collaborative report on the state of e-business in manufacturing that showed despite the recession, e-business continues to grow stronger in business and spending applications.
The survey revealed that the number of manufacturers selling 6% or more of their goods online nearly quadrupled in the past year, and 36% of respondents said the effectiveness of their order management processes increased due to e-business. Also, 40% of manufacturers reported connecting with at least 16% of their customers over the Web, and investment in e-business programs continues to increase.
“This report documents how manufacturing e-business has survived its first recession,” said Jerry Jasinowski, NAM president. “It is clear that individual and corporate customers are the most important constituency for e-business initiatives by manufacturers. But at the same time, today’s difficult economic environment has made cost and productivity the number one priority,” he said.
