Purchasing barometer rose in January

The National Association of Purchasing Managers-Chicago reports its Business Barometer rose over five points to 56 in January.
This is the third consecutive month of expansion. Both the Production and New Order indexes expanded, with the number of businesses reporting stable or higher production increasing for the ninth consecutive month. However, the survey’s measures of employment, inventories, and order backlog indicated contraction in these areas.
