Manufacturers’ new orders rise 0.4% in December ‘02

New orders for manufactured durable goods increased 0.4% in December to $320.6 billion, following November’s 0.8% decrease, according to the Commerce Department’s advanced report on durable goods.
Year to date, new orders fell 0.8%. Shipments of manufactured durable goods fell 2%, the lowest level since September 2001. Unfilled orders decreased for the fourth consecutive month in December at 0.1%, and inventories increased 1%, revised from the previously published increase of 0.9%.
