Nissan has announced plans to expand its US R&D, design, and engineering operations.
It will invest $40 million in expanding its Farmington Hills, Mich. technical center. At its vehicle and engineering manufacturing facilities in Smyrna and Decherd, Tenn., the company will invest $1 billion to increase manufacturing space by 100,000 square feet in its engineering building, and it will build a new styling studio building and a new testing operations building.
“Nissan is in the midst of an unprecedented product-introduction program in the United States,” said Mitsuhiko Yamashita, president of Nissan technology. The technical center’s responsibilities are growing, “so our capabilities must grow as well,” Yamashita said.
