Production of the redesigned 2005 Mustang will be moved from Ford’s Dearborn Assembly Plant to Auto Alliance International’s (AAI) plant, a joint venture between Ford and Mazda, in Flat Rock, Michigan.
The 1,400 new jobs at the Flat Rock plant will be filled by Ford workers who were recently laid off or reassigned. The plant currently handles the production of the Mazda6 sedan, but it is well below its capacity of 250,000 vehicles per year.
“We’re excited that Mustang is moving to a new home at AAI,” said Ford North America president, Jim Padilla. “As one of America’s most widely acclaimed cars, Mustang’s legendary name plate will continue to be produced at one of Ford’s best assembly plants.”
