Allied Bakeries unveils £25m West Bromwich bakery investment

Allied Bakeries, the UK’s second largest bakery supplier and owner of bread brand Kingsmill, has unviled its £25m West Bromwich bakery investment.

The outlay, which has supported a large refurbishment of the bread plant to create a more modern and efficient bakery, is one of the final projects of the bakery manufacturer’s £210m nation-wide capital expenditure programme.

The latest investment at West Bromwich will manufacture Allied Bakeries’ brand Kingsmill, the sixth biggest UK grocery brand, as well as additional customer branded products.

It will give West Bromwich the capability to produce 8,500 loaves an hour, with the plant benefitting from a new building and ingredient handling technology and electrical and mechanical improvements.

John Jackson, Midlands regional general manager at Allied Bakeries, said the investment and innovation aspects have been long-term focuses for the company.

“Investment and innovation has long been a real focus for Allied Bakeries as we look to the long term, and we’re excited to have finished the plant investment programme at West Bromwich – a programme that was started in 2011 with the installation of a new roll plant,” he said.

Mr Jackson added: “West Bromwich is part of our continuing drive to future-proof our business infrastructure and provide customers and consumers with the freshest bread possible, sustaining our position as supplier of choice.

“I am also proud to be part of site that plays a key part in the Midlands community.”
