A new film from the Scottish Food and Drink Federation (SFDF), ‘A World of Opportunities’, shows the career opportunities available in the food and drink industry.
According to the SFDF, few people seem aware of the career opportunities on offer in Scotland’s largest manufacturing sector, the food and drink industry. As a result, the industry is working hard to overcome by promoting itself as a career destination of choice.
In particular, there is currently a shortage of engineers, technologists and food scientists and the industry is urging people considering their future career to think about training for a role in these areas.
SFDF Director Flora McLean, explains: “We operate in a vibrant industry that offers a wide range of exciting and rewarding careers, yet the sector continues to have well documented skills shortages, particularly in the fields of technology, engineering and food science.
“As the voice of Scotland’s food and drink manufacturers we believe that the promotion of the industry as a career destination of choice is a priority issue. We were therefore delighted when the Scottish Government agreed to provide grant support to help us produce the careers film, ‘A World of Opportunities’ and look forward to sharing it with food companies, careers advice professionals, schools, colleges, universities and training providers across Scotland.”
‘A World of Opportunities’ will be showcased at SFDF’s annual parliamentary reception in the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday 8 September with keynote speaker Richard Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Environment.
