Andy Stephens has stepped down as Cobham CEO, making way for his successor from BAE Systems.

The new CEO of British aerospace and defence firm Cobham, has been named as Robert Murphy, the current executive vice president of BAE Systems product sectors.

The outgoing Cobham CEO has stepped down from his role due to serious back problems. He will take early retirement.

Mr Murphy has over 25 years experience in both the civil and defence aerospace sectors and the broader defence manufacturing sector.

He joins the company mid way through its pursuit of Thrane & Thrane, a Danish satellite telecommunications manufacturer. On April 10 Cobham offered to buy a 50.1% stake in Thrane & Thrane for the equivalent of £2.42 million.

In order to take up his new position Mr Murphy will relocate from the USA. He is due to assume his new role on June 25.
