The Global Manufacturing Festival, a supply chain access and networking event in Sheffield, has received more than 500 visitor bookings and has nearly sold all its exhibitor stands.
The Festival (GMF), in its third year, has passed 510 visitor bookings and has only seven stands available, following a fierce rush in March.
The event, which comprises an exhibition, conference, factory tours and schools outreach event on April 17, is designed to network small and medium sized firms with large companies and global OEMs, especially in metals, special materials and metal forming industries.
Fixty seven exhibitors are signed up to the main exhibition on April 18 at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing. The GMF attracts many local companies as a showcase for South Yorkshire’s engineering capability, and is also reaching beyond Yorkshire to attract firms nationwide.
“The GMF provides Newburgh with an excellent shop window to highlight our exceptional capabilities and to connect with new and existing customers,” said Matthew Jewitt, sales director at Newburgh Engineering. “We are also proud to be a part of the region’s unique position as a high specification, competitive and complete global manufacturing solution. Great things happen in this region, and we need to make sure we celebrate them.”
Steve Roberts, co-founder of local industrial design company Fripp Design and Research, said “As a company at the forefront of developing new ways of manufacturing medical devices, the GMF is a fantastic opportunity for companies like ours to showcase our capabilities and how the Sheffield City Region manufacturing base is so important to us and our clients.”
As well as a host of engineering businesses, business support organisations have recently confirmed exhibition stands. These include UK Trade & Investment, the Manufacturing Advisory Service, the National Skills Academy for Nuclear Manufacturing, the High Value Manufacturing Catapult and Finance Yorkshire. A full list of exhibitors to date is given below.
Kirsten Bolton, marketing manager at AMRC Namtec, the National Metals Technology Centre, said that a stand at the GMF is a platform to promote its new membership offers. “GMF is a good opportunity to tell people about the new AMRC Forum run by the AMRC and Namtec.
“The benefits include four free Namtec events per year on key industry topics, for example our last one on powder metallurgy attracted more than 60 people. We provide a supplier directory where members can profile their services direct to other members and we provide the Namtec quarterly journal. It’s a good venue to meet engineering businesses nationwide.”
Graham Honeyman, CEO of Sheffield Forgemasters, said “Sheffield Forgemasters International exports approximately 70 per cent of its products and recognises the importance of being seen to trade in this international context for current and prospective business purposes.”
He added: “The value of exhibiting at the Global Manufacturing Festival is to position the company, as the UK’s leading manufacturer of large and ultra-large technology-dependent steel castings and forgings, to commercial overseas visitors. Our business crosses a vast number of market sectors and it is important to exploit an opportunity to reach new customers so close to home.”
