Along with the schedule for the festival, the full list of keynote speakers was announced today, including Sir Roger Bone, President of Boeing UK and Prof Ric Parker from Rolls-Royce.

Other speakers confirmed include Prof Ric Parker of Rolls-Royce, Dr. Alan McLelland from NAMTEC, Alan Cumming of EDF Energy, Andrew Peters from Siemens Drive Technologies, Sir Chris O’Donnell former CEO of Smith & Nephew, and Prof Keith Ridgway CBE, executive dean of the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Institute.

Sir Roger was appointed as an honorary ambassador for British business by the Prime Minister in 2010 and will launch the two-day event with a lecture organised by the University of Sheffield. The lecture is to be held at the institution’s Octagon Centre on March 21, in association with Sheffield Hallam University.

Boeing’s links with Sheffield University go back to 2001, after the aerospace firm was appointed a founding member of the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.

Sir Roger’s supporting presence at the event is expected to give weight to the programme, and reaffirm the UK’s position as a global leader in advanced manufacturing and innovation. On March 22, an international convention and trade show will take place at the City Hall, Sheffield with business leaders from around the globe attending.

Sponsors for the Global Manufacturing Festival include Nabarro LLP, The University of Sheffield and Siemens Plc.

Key themes at the convention will cover the three critical areas of UK strategy and support, new markets and opportunities, and technology and commercialisation.
