Exhibitor perspective: Made in Britain’s John Pearce at #DigiMfgWk 2020

The Manufacturer’s James Devonshire recently caught up with Made in Britain Chief Executive, John Pearce, in the Smart Factory Expo Hall at Digital Manufacturing Week.

With so many insightful keynotes, presentations and discussions to consume at this year’s event, as well as receiving visitors at the Made In Britain stand, time was of the essence. But John was kind enough to spare a few minutes to talk.

Here’s what the pair discussed:

JD: “How are you finding the new virtual Digital Manufacturing Week setup?”

JP: “I’m a trade show obsessive. I love meeting new people, even when it’s only on line or in a chat room. We all have to learn what is best to shape the future of trade shows and events, which will definitely include virtual and distanced contributions. If we don’t show up and share and learn what to do best, we cant shape the future for the better. I really appreciate TM/Hennik pioneering this event and providing the platform for our sector.”

JD: What is Made in Britain hoping to get out of the event?

JP: “Being present, turning up and telling your story. We have 1450 members of Made in Britain and we owe it to them to tell their amazing story at events like this – the event might be virtual, the 1450 stories of successful manufacturing in this country are very real.”

JD: Which keynotes/presentations/discussions have really stood out for you?

JP: “We launch a new sustainability scheme for members this year so I was particularly interested in the presentations about circular economy, resource and raw material resilience and green governance.”

JD: How can Made in Britain help manufacturers going forward?

JP: “The official mark, our member-only news service, the networking and our new product directory service launching early in 2021. The only official way to shout loud about your provenance is to join the non-profit Made in Britain organisation.”
