Rolls-Royce has won a $4bn (£2.6bn) order from Singapore Airlines to power 50 Boeing 787 Dreamliner engines for the airline.

The planes will be supplied by the Derby-based manufacturer’s Trent 1000 engines,  with thirty of the aircraft operated by Singapore Airlines, with an additional 20 for Scoot, an airline subsidiary.

Eric Schulz, president of civil large engines at Rolls-Royce, said: “We are very proud that Singapore Airlines, one of the most respected carriers in the world, and its subsidiary Scoot has placed their trust in our Trent 1000 and our ability to deliver superior product and service performance.

“This decision is a tremendous reflection of the deep relationship that Rolls-Royce and Singapore Airlines enjoy, and allows us to continue to develop our strategic alignment.”

The latest deal follows a £1.6bn order in October 2012, and now takes Rolls-Royce’s order book close to a figure of £70bn.
