Clare Marett

Head of Manufacturing, Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS)

Clare took up post as the Head of Manufacturing within BIS in August 2014. Her team leads on Manufacturing policy as well as the Manufacturing Advisory Service and Reshoring. Current priorities include developing the UK policy position on Smart/ Digital Manufacturing; development of a UK Additive Manufacturing Strategy; Review of Manufacturing Metrics, and delivery programmes relating to manufacturing supply chains. Clare’s team works with a range of stakeholders including industry, academics and trade associations to ensure that government policy meets business need. Clare has worked for BIS since 2011 and before manufacturing, worked on Growth Deal policy and with Local Enterprise Partnerships.

Clare joined the civil service in 2002 and has worked across a number of government departments and policy areas including counter terrorism, communities and drugs policy.  Before joining the civil service, Clare worked in housing for a registered social landlord. She managed a range of projects including a women’s refuge and 24/7 access hostel.
