Innovation Manager, Speedo
Rachel Webley joined Speedo’s design team in November 2005, responsible for female holiday and leisure swimwear and also acting in an advisory capacity on the development of the Speedo Sculpture ShapeLine project.
Rachel has a BA (Hons) degree in Contour Fashion, De Montfort University in Leicester and a BTEC Diploma in Fashion from Barnfield College in Luton. Before joining Speedo, Rachel worked within the lingerie field specialising in shapewear (body contouring) and larger bras for brands including Fantasie Lingerie and M&S suppliers Courtaulds and Claremont.
After one year at Speedo, Rachel became a full-time designer for Aqualab, Speedo’s dedicated research and development group. She worked on the Speedo Sculpture ShapeLine project and was instrumental in the development of the range until going on maternity leave in June 2008.Following her return to work, Rachel was appointed to the position of Innovation Manager, Product and Marketing. Her role entails working with insights and trends and evaluating and applying leading edge science and findings to inform Speedo technology and products.
Rachel’s team brings ideas to life by producing conceptual sketches, finished illustrations and rendered CAD’s, prototypes, testing and validation results, finally working up technical specs ready for the product to go into the manufacturing stage.
Rachel enjoys the freedom to experiment with new concepts at Speedo with the ability to invest in key projects and develop conceptual ideas into viable commercial end products.
Rachel lives in Southwell with her partner and two daughters. A former competitive swimmer, Rachel still enjoys swimming when the responsibilities of a mother allow.
