Vukile Dumani

Qualification and Test Lead , GKN Aerospace Additive Manufacturing Centre

Vukile Dumani is the Qualification and Test Lead for the GKN Aerospace Additive Manufacturing Centre. Most recently, he was the Technical Lead for Ecological High Value Production (EcoHVP), a joint project with Airbus Group Innovations, focussing on pathways to industrialise Electron Beam Melting (EBM). This ambitious project successfully characterised the material produced via EBM and defined relevant process parameters, with associated Material Specifications and Process Specifications.

He has 10 years’ experience of working within the Aerospace Industry having worked for both Airbus Operations Limited and GKN in the field of Research and Development. He has been instrumental in some very interesting projects including the development of novel NDT methods for CFRP structures, new methods for the control of key process variables of powder bed technologies and the development of new mechanical testing philosophies for Additively Manufactured test coupons.

Vukile is part of a dynamic research group on the application of Additive Manufacturing in the Aerospace, Defence and Space industries. Their current work is exploring the process capabilities of both laser and electron beam powder bed technologies with the aim of process and material qualification with subsequent large scale industrialisation.
