The Manufacturer is delighted to be a partner of The Smallpeice Trust, who work to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers to young people in the UK. The Manufacturer is committed to help tackle the skills shortage by giving young people the chance to attend engineering and technology development activities. During 2013 we are supporting the trust by donating a proportion of profits on all Future Factory Series events run.
The Smallpeice Trust is an energetic, independent, educational charity that promotes STEM careers to young people aged 10 to 18. Our mission is to become the premier provider of STEM courses and clubs in the UK aimed at encouraging young people to take up a career in engineering and thereby helping to secure the future technology talent pipeline in the UK. Founded in 1966 by Dr Cosby Smallpeice, a self-taught engineer, The Smallpeice Trust has a reputation for delivering professionally-executed and inspirational residential engineering courses, and in-school STEM Days.
Last year, a record 20,353 students participated in our university-based residential courses, in-school STEM Days and STEM Clubs. 913 teachers and STEM Ambassadors also benefited from our training. Our style of educating is challenging, interactive and innovative; our participants are encouraged to learn through practical experimentation instead of applying traditional, classroom-based techniques. Students gain real work experience through completing similar complex tasks to that of a professional engineer.
