UK manufacturers make the Queen’s New Year Honours List

Nissan’s senior vice president for manufacturing, purchasing and supply chain management in Europe, Trevor Mann has been awarded a CBE.

On receiving the honour, made in recognition of his services to business in north east England, Mr Mann said the award reflected the team effort that has underpinned the success of Nissan’s record-breaking Sunderland plant.

“I am honoured and delighted to receive this award,” commented Mann. “The recognition is very flattering but is without doubt a reflection of the success Nissan has enjoyed, which has been a result of a sustained team effort over many years.”

Mann joined Nissan’s Sunderland plant in 1985 as a team leader, since then, total plant volume stands at more than six million units. The plant has also been celebrating after it was announced it has set a new record for output from a single UK car plant, producing 480,485 vehicles in 2011.

Also on the list was energy management company MITIE’s chief executive, Ruby McGregor-Smith, who was also awarded a CBE.

Ms McGregor-Smith, was named on the New Year Honours List for 2012 and will be honoured for her services to business and diversity in business.

She is one of a small number of women holding the position of chief executive in the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 and is the first Asian woman to be appointed in such a role within that group of companies.

Ruby McGregor-Smith said: “I am truly honoured and humbled by this award. I am passionate about promoting opportunities, entrepreneurialism and diversity in the UK, and delighted to have made a contribution and been recognised with such an honour.”

Since joining, McGregor-Smith has overseen growth in revenues from £0.5bn to £1.9bn.
