Yorkshire Laser & Fabrication announces new Head of Operations

Yorkshire Laser & Fabrication has appointed Lee Grant as its new Head of Operations, marking a return to his roots in fabrication and laser cutting.

Grant, who is originally from Castleford, brings extensive experience across the metal and manufacturing sectors, having begun his career as an apprentice draughtsman with Joseph Rhodes before progressing through production, mechanical engineering and senior management roles.

His career includes positions such as Welding Manager at Cameron Oil and Gas, Shift Manager at ATI in Sheffield, and Production Manager at Litestructures. He also held a commercial role selling laser cutting and fabrication services for NG Bailey.

Grant joins the Normanton-based firm from David Brown Santasalo in Huddersfield, where he served as Senior Assembly and Test Manager for two years.

“I’d worked with YLF from a customer perspective when I was with Litestructures, so knew it was a good organisation,” he said. “After working on a huge project for two years that was slower to progress, I was looking for a return to a faster pace of life.”

In his new role, Grant will oversee all aspects of production, including plant efficiency, delivery performance, maintenance, health and safety, quality, and HR. He will lead a team of four managers, with operations running 24 hours a day, five days a week.

A trained quality auditor with NEBOSH certification and experience in Six Sigma methodologies, Grant said he is focused on building on existing processes while identifying opportunities for improvement. “I’ve been here about a month now and am thoroughly enjoying it,” he added. “I can see opportunities for improvement and am looking forward to implementing them.”

Yorkshire Laser & Fabrication said the appointment strengthens its operational leadership as the company continues to optimise performance and delivery across its manufacturing activities.
