NEXT GENERATION OF INSULATION CONTRACTORS UNDER TRAINING
Elastomeric and polyethylene foam manufacturer Armacell is helping the next generation of thermal insulation contractors by providing ongoing application training support to City & Guild apprentices.
The three day courses are provided through the Thermal Insulation Contractors Association (TICA) apprenticeship scheme, where Armacell have been training students in the use of elastomeric nitrile rubber insulation at TICA’s Darlington and Cardonald colleges.
Armacell’s Application Specialist Jason Jeenes provides the tuition, including training on Armacell’s product range and the correct usage for hot and cold applications. The course covers small bore tube applications (6mm to 114mm) as well as sheet applications including pattern developments for the effective and efficient insulation of bends, t-pieces, reducers, valves, flanges, ducting and process vessels. The course also covers requirements for compliance with water by-laws and the correct use of adhesives and tools to achieve a professional standard of installation.
The practical training is carried out on demonstration equipment at the colleges and following the three day course a follow up assessment is carried out to award accreditation or recommend further training as required.
As well as training apprentices, Mr Jeenes provides specialist training on different sites around the UK as well as providing an FOC accredited installer training course once a month from Armacell’s Oldham training school. A bronze, silver or gold accreditation is available depending on the range of applications covered. The range of advanced foams manufactured by Armacell includes the world’s leading brand in nitrile rubber insulation, Armaflex, which is specified throughout the world for commercial and industrial requirements. Domestic installations for household plumbing and heating requirements are also accommodated by the Tubolit polyethylene range. Commercial HVAC and RAC installations, together with industrial processing plants utilise Armacell’s thermal insulation materials for energy saving and condensation control where conditions of humidity or ambient temperature variations occur. Sound attenuation, vibration reduction and fire protection solutions are also available as part of Armacell’s foam insulation product ranges. Multi-layer systems can also be designed to provide dual purpose thermal-acoustic protection.
