CNC Robotics – the first robotics company on Spark: the technology innovation marketplace.

CNC Robotics, the UK’s leading robotics integration business, is the first robotics company on Spark, the technology innovation marketplace.

Schools, colleges and universities across the country can now access industrial robotics quickly and easily, helping to train the next generation.

CNC Robotics, an innovative SME based in Liverpool, have deployed industrial robotics for over 10 years in a wide range of industrial and academic settings including Royal College of Art, University of Liverpool and Hugh Baird College.

Spark was created by Crown Commercial Service (CCS), the UK’s largest public procurement body and is designed to support cutting edge products and markets that aren’t catered for in traditional commercial agreements.

Philippa Glover, Managing Director of CNC Robotics, says: ‘We are reaching a watershed moment for educational establishments in the UK. It is great to see the UK government backing innovative SMEs like ours to enable educators to respond to the rising demand for industry specific courses, using the latest technology to train the next generation and upskill existing workforces.

‘Being appointed to Spark makes it easy for schools, colleges and universities to procure ready-to-use industrial robotic systems designed specifically for the individual institution’s requirements. These technologies provide students with invaluable, practical experience of industrial digital technologies.’

The UK is often seen at the leading edge of innovation and is recognised worldwide for its technological capabilities. However, despite this, the adoption of automation in the form of industrial robotics is lagging far behind its international competitors.

Five major industrial robotics markets represent 73 per cent of the total global sales volume in 2017: China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States and Germany. In 2017 the UK accounted for only 0.6 per cent of annual global shipments of industrial robots and 3.5 per cent of European shipments. The UK’s adoption rate lags behind any of our G7 competitors and only by 2017 had the UK managed to reach the worldwide average of 85 robots per 10,000 workers, having previously been the only G7 nation to have fewer robots than the global average. 1

Industrial robotics are a key contributor to the growth of labour productivity and value-added productivity across industrialised nations, accounting for as much as a tenth of aggregated growth between 1993 to 2007. Schools, colleges and universities are starting to provide students with access to industrial robotics to support their learning and can now procure industrial robotics more quickly and easily through Spark.

Niall Quinn, director of CCS’s technology pillar, said: ‘Spark is the result of a wide-ranging review into how the public sector adopts new technologies. It has been developed to support SMEs through government buying power while stimulating growth in the UK technology sector.’

CCS supports the public sector to achieve maximum commercial value when procuring common goods and services. In 2018/19 CCS helped the public sector achieve commercial benefits worth £945m – supporting world-class public services aimed to offer best value for taxpayers.
