Silicone Engineering Limited sponsors HMS Torbay to take on the MS Challenge!

Silicone Engineering Limited has recently sponsored members of the HMS Torbay, a Trafalgar class nuclear submarine, to complete the gruelling MS Challenge that helped raised money for the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre South West Limited.

The aim of the MS Challenge was for a team to navigate a demanding ten mile course, taking with them a person who has Multiple Sclerosis in a wheelchair. This gives the person with MS the chance to enjoy the sort of outdoor adventure which is not normally available to them.

The challenge took place on the 23rd June 2012, at the Brecon Beacons National Park. Christine Westlake, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 14 years ago, was nominated by the MS Therapy Centre to take part in the challenge. This involved her sitting in a wheelchair, whilst being carried around by the intrepid crew. She said;
“The course was very challenging and wet but the team were empathetic which helped my nerves during the muddy trail.”

The event is an orienteering challenge set on a Forestry Commission land where using a compass and reading a map to find a route is most important.

Paul Kinsella, Managing Director at Silicone Engineering Limited added;
“Silicone Engineering Ltd is proud to have sponsored such a worthy cause. We hope the money raised will go on to help other sufferers and support the good work that is being done at the Therapy Centre”.

Silicone Engineering Ltd helped raise up to £1,500 for the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre South West Limited. The therapy centre provides therapies, information, advice and support for people living with MS. Caroline Smith, founder of the charity said;
“We have had a fantastic response from everyone who took part in the challenge and we are very grateful to Silicone Engineering for sponsoring the event. The centre is self funding so we need all the support we can get”.
