World-famous soft drinks manufacturer A G Barr has selected Mainsaver CMMS to support management of maintenance at its production site in Cumbernauld. The drinks giant, which produces such household-name brands as Irn-Bru, Strathmore Water and Rubicon, will go live with Mainsaver later this month.
A G Barr’s Engineering Manager Jim Anderson led the CMMS evaluation. “The decision to go with Mainsaver was not taken lightly” he comments. “We had a pressing need to replace an old DOS-based package and my colleagues and I spent a fair amount of time looking at different CMMS options.”
“In the end, no other CMMS we looked at gave us the improvement opportunities that Mainsaver does.”
The state-of-the-art Cumbernauld factory can produce a staggering 690 million cans of soft drink per year. It has recently benefited from a £50m investment in uprated production, warehousing and logistics facilities, an investment which the maintenance department will play a major role in protecting.
“One of the big attractions to Mainsaver was the full asset care side of things” says Jim Anderson. “Good data is paramount for carrying out root-cause analysis and Mainsaver gives our machine operatives and engineers the means to record breakdowns and other work activities very easily. This information accumulates over time to give us an accurate, traceable history for each plant asset.”
Alongside Mainsaver, the implementation at Cumbernauld features the SpidexWM web maintenance module, Mobile Mainsaver, Spidex IA (Intelligent Alerts) Spidex dRA (Dynamic Risk Assessment) and an interface between the CMMS modules and Barr’s ERP system MFG Pro.
According to Jim Anderson, Spidex dRA was a significant factor in the decision to adopt the Spidex offering. “A big plus for the Spidex system was the Dynamic Risk Assessment module” he says. “It provides the engineers with a pre-start safety checklist as they log on to each work order, which helps us to meet ever-changing best practice standards.”
Commenting on Barr’s selection of Mainsaver, Spidex Managing Director Jonathan Starling said: “Spidex is delighted to welcome such a major beverages manufacturer to the Mainsaver user community, and we look forward to working with A G Barr for many years to come.”
