Managing Director awarded Entrepreneur of the Year 2012
Richard Salvage, Managing Director of The Recycling Company based in South Cornelly, South Wales and founder of the MEDSA Group, was presented last month with the 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year award from Cranfield University School of Management at a reception at The Royal Institution of Great Britain in London.
This highly-prized recognition is awarded annually by Cranfield University School of Management to recognise outstanding entrepreneurial achievement. Richard Salvage was celebrated for setting-up and developing Shield Medicare, a company specialising in the manufacture and distribution of clean room equipment for the medical and pharmaceutical industries. Shield Medicare now headquartered in Baglan grew to become the European leader in single use sterile surgical supplies and sterile biocides. The company was sold to US conglomerate Ecolab in 2006 and to this day retains its leadership position in contamination control equipment.
Following the sale of Shield Medicare, Richard went on to set-up the MEDSA Group, a £10m turnover group that comprises 4 fast-growing and profitable companies, all based in South Wales: Shield Automotive, Greased Lightning, DTR Medical and The Recycling Company.
Receiving his award, Richard commented: “I am delighted to be receiving this award. The most satisfying part of being an entrepreneur is being able to see opportunities and help businesses fulfil their potential.” He explained, “In The Recycling Company, my latest acquisition, I saw true potential and now we don’t just offer waste management services to businesses, we offer a powerful marketing and corporate social responsibility tool enabling organisations to say: we have achieved Zero to Landfill.” Under the leadership of Richard, the company was reinvigorated and today, it employs 85 staff and is working with high profile companies reducing waste to landfill by thousands of tonnes a year.
