During a recent visit to the company, The Manufacturer explored how its team combines rapid tooling, material expertise and customer collaboration to deliver innovative injection moulding solutions from concept through to production.
Rapid tooling across multiple industries

According to Mike Tharme, Engineering Director at BEC Group, one of the company’s key strengths is its ability to move quickly from design to production.
From the point a customer supplies CAD data, the engineering team can rapidly progress through tool design and manufacture before producing first-off samples for approval. This streamlined process enables customers to accelerate product development and bring new products to market faster.
Responding to growing sustainability demands
Mike also highlighted a clear shift in customer requirements towards more sustainable materials.
BEC Group is seeing increasing demand for recycled, recyclable and compostable plastics as manufacturers look to reduce environmental impact and respond to evolving legislation and market expectations.
While sustainable materials are not suitable for every application, the company works closely with customers to identify the most appropriate solution, balancing environmental considerations with product performance and durability.
Solving engineering challenges through collaboration
The importance of that collaborative approach was demonstrated by one of BEC Group’s customers, MarineSolar Energy Solutions.
Chief Technology Officer Chris Russell explained that, as a UK-based start-up, the company wanted to work with an experienced UK manufacturer capable of supporting rapid product development. BEC Group was selected for its speed to market and its ability to develop tooling quickly.
During development, MarineSolar Energy Solutions encountered a significant challenge with a complex aluminium clamping component that proved difficult to manufacture.
Working alongside BEC Group, the team redesigned the component in plastic. BEC Group advised on suitable materials capable of withstanding the harsh marine environment while also meeting recyclability requirements.
Following successful material trials, the tooling was produced within a short timeframe, resulting in a lighter, lower-cost component that resolved the manufacturing challenge without compromising performance.
