Jaguar opens first UK engine plant in a generation

Just days after inaugurating the company’s first overseas plant in China, Jaguar Land Rover opened its new Engine Manufacturing Centre in the UK, near Wolverhampton.

It marks the first time in decades that the manufacturer will be making its own engines in the UK and both the Queen and Prince Philip attended the launch.

The plant, which will create 1,400 new jobs, was first announced in September 2011 and broke ground in June 2012 with the total cost reaching half a billion pounds. The plant also features the UK’s largest solar array with 21,000 panels which will produce about 30% of the site’s electricity needs.
