Nigel Paine, Vice President of Production at Carlsberg Britvic, outlines why making sustainability important matters to the industry.
He talks about how food & beverage manufacturers must make sustainability central to operations, not just as a side project, but embedded into everything the company does.
He highlights how Britvic has been tackling its Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions: For Scope 1 & 2 (direct emissions + purchased energy) the company is investing in heat-recovery systems, switching from fossil-fuel steam boilers to low-carbon alternatives, and increasing renewable electricity sourcing.
For Scope 3 (indirect emissions across supply-chain and product lifecycle) Nigel emphasises collaboration: working with suppliers, pushing innovation, and using data to track both the upstream and downstream footprint of their products. He gives some practical tips that other companies can utilise.
Such advice, on some of manufacturing’s biggest challenges, will be available at this year’s Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit.
