Waverly Labs reveal world’s first earpiece automatic translator

At the convergence of wearable technology and machine translation, Waverly Labs is developing the world’s first smart earpiece language translator.

According to the company, the device and its associated app use the latest technologies in speech recognition, machine translation and wearable tech to allow wearers to converse without language barriers.

Being lost in translation has happened to everyone while traveling and that’s exactly how the idea was born.

Intended for the traveller and international professionals, the Pilot includes a second earpiece for wireless music streaming and a mobile app, which toggles between languages.

The company will be taking pre-orders via Indiegogo in Spring 2016. The mobile app, which serves as the basic phrasebook for translation while traveling, will be available a few months later in Summer 2016. The Pilot earpiece, which provides the full translation experience, will be out by Spring 2017.

While the device certainly looks exciting, after years of mediocre voice recognition technologies, the proof will be in the pudding. But we’re still very much looking forward to trying one out for ourselves.
