Whirlpool aiming for Zero Waste to Landfill for all manufacturing sites

Late last year, Whirlpool’s three plants in Brazil reached their goal of zero waste to landfill and the company said it intends to reach that same goal at every manufacturing facility throughout the globe by 2022.

However, as with many companies around the world that claim the zero waste to landfill banner, to achieve the initiative, some of Whirlpool’s waste is actually incinerated. The Manufacturer has asked Whirlpool for clarification as to exactly how much of its waste is burned and for its proof that its zero waste to landfill programme is actually beneficial for the environment.

The Manufacturer is awaiting a response from Whirlpool and until we hear differently, we will assume that the environmental benefits of its zero waste to landfill initiative have been adequately proven.

In other sustainability news from Whirlpool, last June the company broke ground on a wind farm near its Findlay, Ohio dishwasher plant.

At the beginning of May, the site became fully operational and is expected to offset more than 20% of the Whirlpool plant’s on-site electricity needs.
