Liquidators have been appointed at two Shropshire businesses, at the loss of around 50 jobs in the county.
In recent weeks, Whitchurch agricultural machinery business Latham Engineering and Telford-based CD manufacturer Sound Performance Manufacturing, have both collapsed. The have now been appointed teams of finance experts to wind up their operations.
Sound Performance, which made the discs for the X Factor winners, made dozens of staff redundant over Christmas.
At the time, the London-headquartered company employed around 40 staff, but as recently as 2012 had almost 100 people on its books.
Latham, a family-run business, was founded around 30 years ago, and employed around 10 people.
Simon Edwards from Chester-based commercial law firm Aaron & Partners has now been appointed to wind up the operation.
In a statement, Aaron & Partners said: “The business was started about 30 years ago by Maurice Latham and was a family-run company selling mainly agricultural machinery, tools and goods from premises near Whitchurch.
“Unfortunately problems such as rising costs and slow payment by customers forced the company to close, with the loss of 10 jobs.”
A meeting of creditors will now be held for the collapsed company, which was based at Hillcroft Bradeley Green on the edge of Whitchurch, on April 3.
To handle the winding up of Sound Performance Manufacturing, liquidators from financial services firm BDO have now officially been appointed.
The company recorded losses of more than £400,000 in its last full year of trading before the Halesfield-based factory closed suddenly just before Christmas. A meeting has already been held to confirm the winding up for the company.
