Allied Bakeries remains robust despite Tesco dropping its Kingsmill bread brand says operations director Nick Law.

In March, the supermarket announced that it would discontinue stocking its third best-selling bread brand Kingsmill.

Overall sales of the bread were down 11.1% year-on-year in 2014 to £371m.

Operations director Nick Law said that Tesco was still an important customer for Allied Bakeries as the firm still supplies much of the supermarket’s own brand bread.

Law said: “We are disappointed that Kingsmill isn’t on the shelves of Tesco and we have to think that we will get it back on the fixtures again soon. We hope that they will change their minds.

“I don’t think we are particularly disadvantaged, it’s one of those things that goes around in circles.”

The bread manufacturer will continue to supply Tesco with Burgen and Allinson bread brands.
