A research and development fund created for the automotive and aerospace industries has received a £100m boost from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.
The Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI) is to receive the sum which will then be distributed around 49 successful companies across both sectors.
It follows the £245m which has been allocated to the initiative since it was set up in 2011 to fund capital equipment, R&D and job creation.
The money will also be used to help companies in the UK rail, renewable energy, chemical and nuclear sectors.
The AMSCI project, which will run until 2022, is expected to both create and secure over 11,000 jobs in UK manufacturing.
