Employers in England consider qualified apprentices more employable than individuals with other qualifications, an ICM Research survey showed.
To complete the study, ICM Research interviewed 500 employers, asking them to rate from 1 to 10 the level of employability of people depending on the qualifications they hold.
Apprenticeships scored 15% higher than other qualifications. The most desirable qualification appeared to be the Higher (degree level) Apprenticeship, followed by a university degree.
In 2013 there will be higher apprenticeships available in 41 subjects. Around 3,700 people started a Higher Apprenticeship in 2011-2012, which represented a 68% increase on the previous academic year.
David Way, executive director, National Apprenticeship Service said: “We know that apprenticeships deliver real business benefits for employers. At the same time, they can provide young people with a nationally recognised work-based route into professions that have traditionally been the preserve of graduates.”
