Mandy Ridyard, Director of ASG Produmax — part of the ASG Group — has been appointed to the National Manufacturing Commission as part of its newly launched inquiry into how the Government’s Industrial Strategy can best support small and medium-sized manufacturers across the UK.

The Commission, which serves as the research arm of the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group (APMG), plays a key role in shaping policy recommendations to strengthen UK industry. Its latest inquiry will examine how the Government’s Modern Industrial Strategy, introduced in June 2025, can deliver practical, long-term support for manufacturing SMEs—the backbone of the UK’s 250,000 active manufacturing businesses.

The inquiry will explore critical areas such as building sovereign capability, tackling energy costs and infrastructure challenges, improving access to finance, and streamlining the regulatory environment. By gathering evidence from industry leaders, academics, and policymakers, the Commission aims to ensure SMEs are positioned to thrive, innovate, and contribute to national resilience and economic growth.

Ridyard said her appointment comes at a pivotal time for the sector. “SMEs are the lifeblood of UK manufacturing and play a crucial role in creating innovation, resilience, and jobs across our regions,” she commented. “It’s vital that SME voices are heard clearly as the Industrial Strategy takes shape.”

Drawing on her experience at ASG Produmax, Ridyard added that the right support can empower manufacturers to compete on a global stage. “Access to affordable green energy, investment, skills, and digitisation will be central to ensuring a bright future for UK manufacturing,” she said.

The inquiry is co-chaired by Bill Esterson MP and Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea CBE, DL, and is supported by the ERA Foundation. A steering group of senior figures from academia, advanced manufacturing, and SME leadership will guide its work and help shape actionable recommendations for Government.

Simon Weston, CEO of ASG Aerospace, welcomed the appointment, noting Ridyard’s long-standing advocacy for SME innovation and growth. “Mandy’s experience leading ASG Produmax and championing SME competitiveness makes her a strong voice for advanced manufacturing and the critical role SMEs play in driving innovation, exports, and resilience,” he said.
