The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has delivered good news to the UK manufacturing sector amid economic troubles, announcing that April saw the highest vehicle production total in over two years.
The total number of units produced in April was 174,691 – the highest since March 2006 – with 656,513 produced from January to April – a 15 per cent increase on the same period in 2007.
“Growth was across both home and export markets, with over three quarters of all cars produced so far this year heading abroad,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive. “All manufacturers did well this month, providing some welcome economic news during this difficult period.”
