As part of an ongoing investment strategy across the company, the new automated laser cutter provides higher part quality for MTL Advanced.

Speaking to The Manufacturer about the company’s new investment, a spokesperson for MTL Advanced said: “We invested in the new machine as part of our ongoing investment strategy across the company.

“With 25 laser cutting machines in-house across the Group, we are now one of the largest laser cutting operations in the whole of the UK and we strive to stay at the forefront of the industry.

“This latest investment enhances MTL’s production capacity and allows us to provide a complete service to customers as it complements our extensive waterjet cutting, press braking, CNC machining and metal finishing services.”

The new laser comes fully equipped with a LoadMaster, automatically loading sheets to take the strain off operators and to improve speed and productivity.

Ideal for thin and fast cutting, the fibre laser will enable MTL to be competitive on large volume production contracts.

Karl Stewart, Director at MTL Advanced, said: “Investment in the latest manufacturing equipment allows the business to remain competitive and enjoy sustained growth.

“This latest investment, which now totals £8.5m over the last 18 months, enhances our production capacity and allows the business to provide a complete service to customers and the markets we serve.

“Lean manufacturing and automation continues to be an essential part of our strategy where we have automated large-scale laser cutting machines, a robotic 640 tonnes 7.3m press brake, and 10 robotic welding cells”.

Asking the company about further plans to invest in new technology, an MTL Advanced spokesperson said: “We continuously invest in state-of-the-art technology, and over the last 12 months WEC Group has invested £4.5m in state-of-the-art machinery and additional manufacturing space.

“The additional capacity at MTL is the next step of our expansion plan which has seen WEC Group open new offices in Stafford and Glasgow.”
