Babcock’s HMNB Clyde operation has agreed a three-year partnership with Glasgow Warriors, with the collaboration set to support recruitment, skills and community initiatives across West Central Scotland.
The partnership will see the Babcock brand feature on both the men’s and women’s Glasgow Warriors kits throughout the agreement, while the two organisations will collaborate on recruitment, colleague engagement and community activities.
The partnership is intended to highlight the links between elite sport and industry, with both organisations placing an emphasis on teamwork, resilience, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
For Babcock, the agreement will also provide an opportunity to promote careers within the business and engage with young people across West Central Scotland.
Supporting future talent
Babcock is one of the region’s largest employers, with its Clyde operation playing a significant role in the company’s naval work.
Dale Smith, Managing Director of Babcock’s Clyde facility, said the partnership reflected the values shared by the two organisations.
“Rugby is built on teamwork, discipline, accountability and a relentless commitment to delivering under pressure, qualities that are equally important in our business here at Clyde,” he said.
“Whether on the rugby pitch or supporting the defence of our nation, success depends on people working together, embracing innovation and continually striving to perform at their best.”
Smith added that the partnership would provide an opportunity to showcase career opportunities at Babcock while supporting local communities.
Glasgow Warriors Head of Commercial Glen Tippett said the partnership would allow both organisations to learn from each other’s expertise.
“With firm roots in the region’s business landscape, Babcock share our values of developing the next generation and providing a high-quality team environment, and we look forward to working closely together over the next three years,” he said.
Alongside the kit sponsorship, Babcock and Glasgow Warriors plan to work together on initiatives designed to encourage healthy and active lifestyles, develop aspiration and create opportunities for young people.
The partnership will also give Babcock opportunities to engage with supporters and potential recruits, connecting the worlds of sport, education and industry across the west of Scotland.
The agreement comes as manufacturers and engineering businesses across the UK continue to focus on attracting and developing the next generation of technical talent, with employer engagement and exposure to industry increasingly forming part of recruitment and skills strategies.
