Brierley Hill-based electrical control systems specialist Banelec has reinforced the strength of UK manufacturing after successfully delivering a £500,000 contract for a bespoke fan case lifter to a global aerospace OEM, underlining the West Midlands’ role as a hub for high-value engineering innovation.
The project saw the company design and manufacture advanced assisted lifting equipment to address a persistent challenge in aerospace production: the safe handling of large, heavy fan case units. By enabling operators to lift, lower and rotate components with precision, the system significantly reduces the risk of repetitive strain injuries while improving consistency on the production line.
At the heart of the solution is a coordinated system of three electric-powered jacks, positioned equidistantly around the fan case and controlled via individual panels operating in unison. A radio control interface allows engineers to manoeuvre the load smoothly, delivering both safety and ease of use in demanding manufacturing environments.
“This was a major contract win for Banelec and one we are extremely proud to have delivered successfully,” he said. “The challenge was not simply to move a large aerospace component, but to directly address the manual handling risks faced by operators every day. By doing so, we’ve helped create a safer, more efficient production environment.”

The installation was integrated into the customer’s existing flow line with minimal disruption and underwent extensive testing to validate lifting capacity, durability and control accuracy. For the aerospace manufacturer, the system represents a step forward in both operator safety and process capability, reducing physical strain while protecting high-value components from damage.
The contract further cements Banelec’s reputation as a trusted behind-the-scenes partner to major industrial brands. Over more than two decades, the company has built expertise in electrical control systems, automation, robotics and Industry 4.0 technologies, supplying solutions to organisations including Rolls-Royce, Jaguar Land Rover, GKN, Chevron, BP and Aibel.
Banner added that the project reflects a broader shift across industry towards smarter, safer and more sustainable manufacturing practices—an area where UK firms are well positioned to lead.
“At Banelec, we are at our best when we are solving real operational problems,” he said. “This project shows how intelligent automation can make manufacturing not only more productive, but also safer and more sustainable.”
With demand for advanced engineering solutions continuing to grow, the successful delivery of the fan case lifter highlights how specialist UK manufacturers are competing on a global stage—combining innovation, precision and practical problem-solving to support the next generation of aerospace production.
