Electric vehicle battery maker EVida Power has signed a $250m deal to supply French-German carmaker Mia Electric with 8kWh batteries for three new vehicles.
The company will supply 10,000 batteries per year – initially until 2016 – topower Mia’s zero-emission three and four-seater Mia and Mia L town car as well as its 1,500-litre cargo box van.
The news has been released to coincide with the Geneva Motor show, running all this week, which features a display of Mia’s range.
The lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack will provide a range of between 80 and 90 km per charge in urban cycle, and can be fully recharged in under three hours, using a standard 220V power supply. A 10 minute rapid charge can provide an extra 8 km of range.
Laurent Buffeteau, managing director of Mia Electric, says: “We appointed EVida based on their ability to provide a flexible, low-cost and high quality battery pack solution tailored to the characteristics of our individual models, coupled with access to unrivalled expertise and a high-level of durability for our customers.”
Jonathan Shine, EVida’s Co-Founder, added: “We are delighted to be working with an innovative electric vehicle manufacturer such as Mia Electric. The agreement represents a significant milestone in the realization of Evida’s vision, and is a testimony to our ‘whole vehicle view’ philosophy in which our technology has been specifically designed in line with the needs of our client, and more importantly this is a solution which is economically viable and sustainable for Mia Electric going forward.”
Initial delivery of the Mia town cars will begin from 1 June 2011. The 3-seater Mia model is designed for city use and at 2.87 in length is only 37cm longer than a Smart FourTwo. It will have a top speed of just under 70mph. Prices start at Eu 19,500, rising to Eu24,500 for the four-seater Mia L. The box van version, with 1500 litre capacity begins at Eu22,500.
