If you are using more than 500,000 kWh of electricity per annum and you are in a qualifying sector, it is likely that will secure significant savings on your bills via the new British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme (BICS).
It equates to around a 25% per cent discount on the energy you use.
But the opportunity to secure these savings is now as the application window is only open between 1st October and 30th November 2026.
Applicants need a robust evidence pack to secure the highest possible discount on electricity bills. However, one small error in data gathering could see a company’s savings halve or disappear altogether.
The level of exemption granted to a site is determined by the proportion of electricity used to manufacture eligible products, applied through banded thresholds:
- Less than 25%: No exemption
- 25% to 50%: 50% exemption
- More than 50%: 100% exemption
