Posted on 21 Feb 2013

Power and automation technology specialist ABB won an order for 2,400 robots by BMW Group.

Over the next three years the robots will be installed at factories in Regensburg and Leipzig, Germany, as well as in Tiexi, China. They will mainly be used for material handling tasks, as well as gluing and spot welding processes.

This is not BMW’s first order with ABB.

Per Vegard Nerseth, head of ABB Robotics, said: “BMW is a world class and forward thinking customer. Auto makers clearly have confidence that investing in robotic automation is a sound business strategy.”

ABB’s range of products and solutions for lean manufacturing cover activities from body-in-white to the final assembly of complete car bodies.

The Manufacturer is hosting an event entirely dedicated to automation titled Automate UK on February 26 in London – more information here.
