Bokomo Foods acquire UK snack brand

Bokomo Foods, a Leicestershire-based breakfast cereal manufacturer, has purchased children’s snack producer Stream Foods Ltd in a deal worth £7.5 m.

Stream manufacturer the Fruit Bowl brand and was sold to Bokomo by owners Wellness Foods less than four weeks after the cereal maker unveiled a new site in Peterborough.

John Hiles, chief executive of Bokomo, part of the South African-owned Pioneer Food Group, said: “I very much see this acquisition as a vital part of improving and enhancing our growth and performance here in the UK.

“It complements our current portfolio and enables us to deliver a branded, on-shelf presence in major retailers such as Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury.

“We will expand our reach in the UK snacking category, which will result in exciting new product choices for UK consumers, while at the same time providing own-brand cereals to all major supermarkets in the UK.”

Stream Foods, which was established in 1997, employs 98 staff members at its site in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, and its products are distributed throughout Europe and China.

The Fruit Bowl brand products include fruit flakes and cereal bars.
