In support of The Manufacturer of the Year Awards Innovation and Design category, sponsor IP Research is this year offering an additional prize to the winner valued at up to £25,000.
IP Research provides executives and engineers with key information needed to make better-informed critical decisions on new product development. The company does this by supplying an in-depth representation of the current state-of-the-art through the analysis of patents and scientific publications.
The prize on offer will consist of a tailor made technology analysis project to assist in areas such as product evolution, technical problem solving, technology due diligence, patenting strategy, and intelligence monitoring.
According to Nicos Raftis, director at IP Research, such a prize offers tremendous opportunities for the recipient company. “As a part of the prize we would be able to carry out a fully technology analysis for the winning entrant to help them identify opportunities for innovation,” says Raftis. “We can also assist to explore conceptual directions to solve a technical problem. In addition we can help them develop a full picture of how their domain is evolving and set up a monitoring system which will alert them if there is a development in the industry that is relevant to them.”

Entering is one thing however, winning quite another. Raftis offers some advice for companies considering entering the Innovation and Design category. “If you ask what makes a good innovative company then you need to look at the definition of innovation,” he says. “In our view, innovation involves an ongoing flow of high quality ideas that are developed into products which are successfully delivered to market. To ensure this, companies need an unbiased and systematic way of assessing ideas.”
