The British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA) is expanding its online training programme with two new half-day courses aimed at helping engineers and commercial professionals understand the application of pumping equipment in specialist industries.
The new courses will focus on chemical processing and water and wastewater, providing practical guidance on pump selection, applications, technologies and materials.
The first course, Pumps in Chemical Processing, will take place on 14 October, followed by Pumps in Water and Wastewater Processing on 9 December.
Both are aimed at people with a general engineering or commercial background who want to develop their understanding of how pumping equipment is used in specific industrial environments.
Applying pump technology
The chemical processing course will examine how different processes influence pump selection, configuration and material choice.
Using process flow charts and typical applications, the training will cover issues including the handling of liquids and solids, as well as corrosion and erosion and their impact on pump design.
Applications covered will include sulphuric and phosphoric acid processing, metal refining and finishing. Delegates will also be introduced to the different types of fluids encountered in chemical processing and the pump designs and materials used to handle them.
The water and wastewater course will take a similar approach, covering applications across water supply, water and wastewater treatment and desalination.
It will also examine pump performance, the handling of liquids and solids, and how corrosion and erosion can affect equipment selection and materials.
The BPMA said the courses are designed to give delegates a practical foundation that can be applied to their own roles and provide a basis for further learning.
The expansion of the programme comes as manufacturers and engineering businesses face continued demand for technical skills that can be applied across increasingly specialised industrial applications.
For pump manufacturers and their customers, understanding how equipment performs in different environments is particularly important when factors such as fluid characteristics, corrosion, erosion and material compatibility influence equipment selection.
The two courses form part of the BPMA’s wider online training programme, which aims to provide industry professionals with a greater understanding of pump technology and its practical applications.
