British turf-care equipment manufacturer Allett Mowers has integrated lithium-ion battery technology from Briggs & Stratton into its OMNIA professional mower platform as demand grows for lower-noise, lower-emission grounds maintenance equipment.
The OMNIA range is a modular, walk-behind professional mower system designed for multiple fine-turf applications including mowing, scarifying, verticutting, brushing and aeration using a single battery-powered drive unit.
Allett said the move forms part of a wider effort to match the performance of traditional petrol-powered professional turf equipment while improving operator comfort, reducing maintenance requirements and cutting environmental impact.
The company selected Briggs & Stratton’s Vanguard commercial lithium-ion battery systems following an evaluation of available power technologies, integrating both the swappable 48V 1.5kWh Si1.5 battery pack and the fixed 48V 3.5kWh Fi3.5 battery pack into the OMNIA platform.
According to Allett, one of the biggest engineering challenges was replicating the consistent torque, speed control and power delivery required for professional cylinder mowing applications, particularly in dense grass conditions and when using multiple interchangeable cartridge attachments.
The company also sought to simplify the mechanical complexity traditionally associated with petrol-powered drive systems, which often rely on belts, chains and fuel-related components requiring regular servicing.
By adopting what it described as a “battery-first” design approach, Allett said it was able to eliminate many traditional mechanical systems, reducing service points, improving reliability and enabling more precise speed control for operators.
The company added that the electric platform is particularly suited to noise-sensitive and emissions-restricted environments such as stadiums, schools, cemeteries and urban green spaces, where petrol-powered equipment is increasingly less practical.

Allett said the swappable Si1.5 battery system allows operators to maintain near-continuous operation throughout the working day when paired with additional batteries and charging equipment, while the larger Fi3.5 pack supports extended runtime applications without mid-day charging.
Both battery systems feature aluminium die-cast housings designed for commercial operating conditions and are backed by an eight-year limited commercial warranty.

Allett said the new platform delivers petrol-equivalent performance across all supported turf-care applications while reducing operator fatigue through lower vibration, quieter operation and simplified machine handling.
