Posted on 5 Sep 2024 by James Devonshire

Twenty one innovative British businesses are currently in Taiwan for SEMICON 2024, where they are exploring collaboration opportunities in the semiconductor industry.

The UK business delegation,Led by the UK Government’s National Technology Adviser (NTA) Dr Dave Smith, includes representation from UK semiconductor companies specialising in photonics, quantum, memory, design and manufacturing equipment, and is even bigger than last year.

As a world leader in compound semiconductors, R&D, manufacturing equipment, design and photonics, the UK complements Taiwan’s status as a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing. Compound semiconductors are vital in growth markets such as autonomous vehicles and future telecoms; they also enable innovation in green energy and are essential in achieving net zero targets.

This year’s UK presence builds on its already extensive collaboration with Taiwan, including the second year of a joint R&D programme with mutual funding of £10m.

Held from 4-6 September, SEMICON Taiwan boasts more than 1,100 exhibitors across 3,700 booths. The UK Pavilion is located at booth K2660, 1ST Floor, TaiNEX 1, Taipei.
